Cates&dpL are based in Portland, Oregon in the Pacific Northwest. The duo has completed one full length album to date, and is owned and listened to people all over the world. Cates&dpL are primarily a breakbeat/d&b/downbeat production duo, but they also have roots in the rock department as well. Jon Cates is the head engineer, and while both Cates&dpL produce tracks, and have done solo projects as well. Cates has been working with numerous software programs over the years and also plays the drums, guitar and sings. dpL writes new material, plays the guitar and sings as well. Together, you get Cates&dpL, a duo that is determined to take their sound across the world and destroy dance floors with their creative and unique sound. Cates&dpL have been a unit since 2003 when they first recorded the Pacific Northwest ep, which was then followed by “The Album” (11 trax of breaks, 4/4,downbeat). Currently the duo is on labels such as: TWISTED FREQUENCY, ACDC, KAYA RECORDINGS, NUTTIN BREAKIN, SOS, and soon to be on Glenn Morrison’s label based out of Canada called Morrison Recordings. As djs, the duo have performed together and alone all over the world. DPL has played in the UK, Europe, South America, all over the USA and in Canada. Cates has primarily played in the US, and continues to get bookings all over the West Coast of the United States. DPL has played at the famous DC10 club in Ibiza with Timo Maas, and has headlined Avalon Boston as well.
